Juxtaposing Freedom Songs

Just like back then, the fight for freedom continues. The more we fight, the more we have to fight. Because we get to one checkpoint and only end up at another. The song I choose from the Civil Rights era is We Shall Overcome by Joan Baez. Baez is a prominent human rights activist. She isn't black but fought for freedom of all races. The song I chose from the present is K'aan's Waving Flag.

Un-American can be defined as contrary to the institutions of the United States of America; not ideal to the customs and beliefs of the US. The Amendment is a great summary of what Un-American should not be. Rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of marriage and freedom of ideas. It shouldn't be hard to define if your beliefs are strong, but then again who are we to determine what un-American is? No one should be the deciding factor. We need to criticize less and work together more. At that point the question will and can be illuminated. America is already known as the country of freedom and therefore that's what we need to continue. No one should be considered un-American but unique. However, if it comes to the point where your rights are exhausted, then this is then not un-American but unworthy and naive. We all need to come together and become more American.

Jazz and RagTIme

Song from the Era (1920-1940)

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

This song is similar to a song from the 21st century because just as everyone in the time loves and looks forward to summer, George is doing this as well.

Rags to Riches

This is the norm for American citizen. They or should I say we, all want this. Some work for it and get it; while others are still trying. How hard working and dedicated you are usually determines this.
I think this a possible. Most people that work for this become rich with the more hungry and drive that steams from their inner soul. Our society may be deeply unequal, the argument goes, but that doesn’t really matter — because anybody in America, with a little grit, can get rich. In our “land of opportunity,” no one has any legitimate reason to grouse.

Jacob Riis Photo

Jacob Riis' photos spoke words that no one dare share with the world. His photograph shows us how far we have come and how far we can get. Not to stop; because the American society is a  mighty one. It dares and for the most part succeeds. Sometimes they might dare too much and put others in jeopardy but when its all said and done success is complete without a little sacrifice.
His work is considered a work of art. Art that no camera of today could capture. Not even with the technology that we have today. Behind his flash he capture places people would consider lost. Place people of upper class tend to ignore.
Jacob has changed a lot with simple capturing places that seemed dark, so that we of the new America could see where we coming from so that we will know where we are going.

Primary Sources

The purposes that primary sources serve in history is the fact that its the closest to reality. This is hard facts that give gives knowledge to researchers and that readers. This makes the unbelievable believable. Because its THERE. In the past 2 decades documents have changed drastically. Primary sources can now be found all around us. Therefore history not only changes everyday but we, this generation have a big impact on it. We are so the future. (:
